Data Scientist

Job purpose 

To analyze large datasets to extract meaningful insights and identify trends using statistical methods and machine learning algorithms. Develop predictive models to forecast future trends and make data-driven recommendations for business decision making.  

Job scope 

Support the Digital team by analysing data to aid commercial decision making. Activities include exporting data from SQL queries and other duties such as;  

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into analytical solutions. 
• Clean, preprocess, and wrangle raw data from various sources to ensure data quality and integrity. 
• Communicate findings and insights effectively to non-technical stakeholders through visualizations, reports, and presentations.' 
• Utilize SQL queries to extract, manipulate, and analyze data from relational databases efficiently. 
• Apply advanced SQL techniques to perform complex data transformations and aggregations for analytical purposes. 

• Collaborate with database administrators to optimize database structures and query performance. 
• Integrate SQL-based data pipelines into the overall data processing workflow to ensure a seamless data flow from various sources. 
• Provide SQL expertise and support to team members, assisting in troubleshooting and resolving data-related issues. 

Background and experience 

• Previously experience of working with and analysing large data sets. 
• Experience at using SQL to access and manipulate data in a large, complex organisation. 
• Knowledge of SQL queries.  
• Strong analytical skills. 
• Excellent communication skills, able to simplify complex issues.  
• Works collaboratively with colleagues from other teams to deliver results. 
• Able to work independently.
