Job Purpose 

We are looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Deputy Head of Tax to help shape the automation of tax operations and reporting in a dynamic, international environment.

Reporting to the Group Head of Tax, this role will be instrumental in shaping the Group’s tax strategy and operations across multiple areas, with a particular focus on:

  • Driving the automation of tax compliance processes across direct and indirect tax in a complex, multinational environment
  • Acting as the technical lead for Group tax reporting under US GAAP
  • Leading on tax issues related to IWG’s digital and platform-based business

This role offers the opportunity to help modernize and future-proof IWG’s tax function, while working closely with senior stakeholders across Finance, IT, Legal, and Commercial.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  1. Tax Technology & Compliance Automation and integration
  • Lead the evaluation and implementation of technology-enabled processes to automate direct and indirect tax compliance across IWG’s global footprint.
  • Collaborate with IT, Finance, and external providers to ensure seamless integration of tax technology with core business systems (e.g. ERP).
  • Integrate the direct and indirect tax compliance aspects of a formerly autonomous business into IWG’s processes, taking on responsibility for two tax professionals as well as relationships with external advisers.
  • Drive improvements in data quality, process consistency, and control in the end-to-end tax compliance lifecycle.

  1. Group Tax Reporting – Technical Oversight (US GAAP)
  • Act as the technical lead on Group tax reporting matters under US GAAP, including current and deferred tax accounting and tax disclosures.
  • Identify and implement improvements to tax reporting processes, with a focus on automation, data integrity, and scalable reporting frameworks.

  1. Platform & Digital Business Tax Strategy
  • Provide strategic and technical tax support for IWG’s digital and platform-based business models, including indirect and digital tax impacts of the agency model in place
  • Manage claims for Research & Development relief
  • Stay current on global tax trends and regulatory developments impacting digital and platform businesses.
  1. Global Tax Governance & Risk Management
  • Support the Group Head of Tax in maintaining strong global tax governance, including audit management, compliance frameworks, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of global tax policies, controls, and documentation.

 

Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications 

  • ACA, CTA, CPA, or equivalent professional qualification
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in international tax and tax reporting, ideally within a multinational corporation or Big 4 environment
  • Proven experience leading the automation of tax compliance processes across direct and indirect tax types
  • Strong technical expertise in US GAAP tax accounting, including review-level oversight and audit interaction
  • Understanding of tax challenges in platform and digital business models
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills
